I love getting new tips and ideas for the home. Last week, I went to a friend’s house. He recently redesign an old family room into a billiards room. The room looked great. Yes, the pool table is awesome. But, he also put a beautiful quote on the wall:
“He is happiest, be he peasant or king, who finds peace in his home.”
Aside from actually enjoying the message, the text and letters looked great. They were done with Vinyl lettering, also called wall decals. The font was clear and clean. There were already nice frames and pictures in the room. However, this was a nice change to the eye.
So, I thought it would be a good idea to write a post on wall decals because it’s a pretty new trend with a lot of applications. While I was playing around with the idea in my mind, I had purchased a banner over at BuildASign and noticed that they also carry decals. Since I know that it’s a great place to get banners, running plenty of promotions and deals all the time, I figured they would be a good place to purchase decals. The design options are practically limitless and I’ve put together some great ideas to help you get started.
Since, we’ve already covered one idea, quotes. Let’s jump right into the second idea, names! I could totally see an elegant font being used in one’s bedroom or bathroom. Perhaps, you might like to put a last name in a more noticeable area, but don’t complain if people start calling you vain.
Next, I like simple curve designs. Most rooms have a variety of square features. Sometimes, on an open wall, a simple curve design or have spiral would add a soothing effect to the room. You might want to experiment with lots of small curve designs or one simple large design that acts as an accent.
A common interior design standard includes uplifting imagery of nature or trees. With decals, you can design your own tree. Whether you want to be in Florida with palm trees or in New York during autumn, you can design the decal to your liking. Further more, you can take it up a notch and add animals too.
Last but not least, you can pick out icons, images, abstracts or flowers. Having a generic decal can add a simplistic, modern feel to the room. Depending on the decal, you can add a gender feel to the room. Flowers for females and cube-like shapes for men.
If you asked me, I would say wall decals are here to stay and growing in popularity. In comparison to traditional wall decoration, they are far more trendy and clean looking. For the younger generation, or first time homeowners, they present a cheap, attractive option.
Having purchased from BuildASign recently, I know they are a great company with cheap prices, quality products and fast shipping. Check out their decals and vinyl lettering at BuildASign.com.
