Upcycling For Plumbing Gear

by Editor on June 24, 2013

Upcycling is becoming more popular every year. It is a chance to use all the old stuff you would normally sign off as trash, and turn it into something beautiful. The things that you create through upcycling are completely unique. There are a number of things that can be used for this practice, but using plumbing equipment may be the best.

What is upcycling?

Upcycling is taking materials and products that are seen as useless, and turning them into something completely different. Instead of simply recycling the product, smashing it down and turning it into something new, there are still the reminisces of the past object. It is still recognizable, but it now carries with it an entirely new function.

Even though the concept has been around for a long time, the first recorded use of the term upcycling was in 1994. It was used in an article discussing the ways in which this new concept was different from recycling. From there, the popularity has increased. More people are using upcycling to style their homes, and get functional use from it.

The cost of material is low, making this an increasing market. In the United States, the use of upcycling has grown greatly from what it started out as. As of April 2013, the number of products on Etsy tagged as upcycling was 263,685. This is an increase of 879% from 2010 when the number only stood at 7,900.

With the growing popularity, more styles are being tried. The plumbing industry has made its mark on upcycling. Through the different styles that can be made, more has been done. Even the most unattractive plumbing gear can be turned into something uniquely beautiful.

Pipes are an essential part of any plumbing structure. Even when they are rusty and unable to be used for running water through your home, they can still be used for a functional purpose. In this case however, they will also be aesthetically pleasing.

It is always fun to have interesting bookshelves. There are many different ways to create these; one of the best is with old pipes. Even if they are rusty, you can paint them any color you like. The more twists and turns in them the better. Once you have constructed them the way you like, mount them on the wall. The zigzag motion will make perfect book ends.

You can do more with these pipes than just bookshelves. They can be used as decorations, or holders for just about anything. The best part of upcycling is getting to use the things you devise in any way you want.

There are other tools associated with plumbing rather than just pipes. Finding new and interesting ways to use these can be fun. There are endless options when it comes to yard art, or even a vintage decoration in your home.

There are no wrong ways to use upcycling. If you wish to use plumbing gear for your home, research the best options for you. There are endless possibilities.
