Modern Décor Ideas For Your Bedroom

How do you unwind at the end of a long day? Do you cuddle up with your favorite book and a cup of hot cocoa? Do you like to just plop down on the couch with a plate of microwaved leftovers and your favorite television show or feature film? Everyone has their own end-of-day routine, usually designed to get the person to slough off the stresses of work. But whether you like to put your feet up on the coffee table, or go out with your friends for some happy hour cocktails, your day will ultimately end in your bedroom. So it is worth it to invest the time and money into making your bedroom a perfect haven of relaxation. If you are interested in updating the look of your room, but don’t know where to start, breathe a sigh of relief. Below are some modern décor ideas for your bedroom to get you started.

IDEA #1 – Let yourself feel a little blue. There are essentially unlimited options when it comes to hues of blue. You can look for something that reminds you of a clear blue sky, or maybe something darker and deeper, to make you feel like you are enveloped in the warm waters of the Caribbean. If it looks a little dreary, spruce things up by mixing your patterns – decorate a striped navy and white couch with some floral throw pillows.

IDEA #2 – Upgrade your bedding to something luxurious. If your bedroom is your safe haven, then your bed is the ultimate cocoon. That is why it is important to make your bed as comfortable, warm, and welcoming as possible. If you don’t have high quality linens on your bed, as well as a fluffy, luxurious comforter, then you are not making your bed as cozy as it can be. Consider splurging on some organic bedding, which will be free of all the toxins and chemicals found in conventional bedding. These sheets are better for the environment and better for your personal health.

IDEA #3 – Add an accent wall in floral prints. According to, “A statement-making accent wall in a sophisticated floral print is just enough to spice up a bedroom. Keep everything else simple so nothing distracts from the power of the print.” Feel free to choose the print in a color (or multiple colors) that you respond to emotionally or that matches the rest of the décor in your bedroom.

IDEA #4 – Get over your fear of geometry. Okay, math was not so fun in high school but that does not mean it can’t make for fun, modern bedroom decoration. According to, there are a few ways to go about mixing in some geometry into your décor. “Choose unevenly patterned squares or circles for your linens, curtains or throw rugs. However, do not use geometric shapes everywhere. Choose a focal point in the room and add your geometric shapes there.”

IDEA #5 – Keep things environmentally friendly. Everyone knows that it’s important to adjust their lifestyles to be conscious of the environment. Keeping things eco-friendly is usually beneficial to your wallet as well. When designing your bedroom décor, keep the environment in mind. There are a few ways to do this. For one, use only eco-friendly paints, whether you are painting your walls or your furniture. Secondly, recycle or donate your old stuff instead of throwing it away. (Keep your receipts! You can get a tax write off for your donations!) And when you are buying new furniture, look for something made from recycled or other natural ingredients.

IDEA #6 – Keep things simple. A lot of people think that doing new design means adding more and more stuff into the room. But sometimes, just the opposite is true: Less is often more, especially when you are going for a modern decor look. Keep things smooth, sleek, and simple. Clutter is your worst enemy for this kind of design scheme, so take all those tchotchkes down from your shelves and clear the stacks of magazines from your floor. Feel free to move some of your favorite pieces into other rooms if they do not match the new simple look of your bedroom.

These are just a few ideas to get you going – be creative and have fun! It’s your bedroom, so ultimately it is about what you like and what makes you feel safe, warm, and comfortable. There are options out there for every budget, so there is nothing standing in the way of your bedroom redesign!
