Feng Shui

By now, nearly everyone has probably heard of Feng Shui, but many still do not know what it means. To some, it might sound like some New Age technique, but the truth is that it goes back thousands of years. When you start to look deeper into the art of Feng Shui, it can seem overwhelming. Diving into all of the different terminology can be hard to understand, and you might not know whether your La-Z-Boy recliner should face the door, the wall, or the kitchen by the time you are through. While many of the books out there make it seem difficult, it doesn’t have to be! Understanding the basics of this art of spatial design and harmony does not have to be overly difficult, as you will see.

It Needs to Be Clean

One of the most important concepts of the art is that you have to make sure that you remove all of the clutter from your home. Whether you are talking about Feng Shui or simple cleanliness, clutter is always the enemy. In Feng Shui, you should not have any clutter in the home at all. In fact, you should not even have it hidden away as so many people do. Just because it remains hidden and you cannot see it, it does not mean it isn’t there. So, your first step is going to be to clean out the clutter and to get rid of all the junk.

Something else that you will want to consider is broken items. If you have anything that is broken, such as a burned out light bulb, it is important to fix it as soon as you can. Broken items can disrupt the harmonious flow of a household.

The Importance of Water

Water is very important in Feng Shui, and it relates to money and wealth. When you waste water, it represents loss of money. That’s why many homes that take Feng Shui seriously will keep their drains covered when they aren’t using them. They also ensure that the toilet seats are always down.

The Placement of Your Bed

You want to position your bed so that you will be able to look at the door when you are lying down in bed. However, you do not want it to be directly in front of the door. Having a headboard is also a good idea according to the principles of Feng Shui, particularly if the head of your bed is close to or beneath a window.

Another thing that you are going to want to consider in your bedroom is the placement of mirrors. When you have large mirrors or mirrored closets, it can disrupt the room’s energy. In fact, many people even claim that they have trouble falling asleep when they are in a room that has too many mirrors.

Welcome the Positive Energy

Here’s another one of the basic tips that you can use without much trouble. Make sure that your front door is an inviting place. Have a clear entranceway and add a light near your door. The belief is that positive energy is going to look at your door the same way that a person might. If you have an uninviting front door, all of that positive energy might skip your house.

The preceding are just a few of the most basic tenets of Feng Shui. As you learn more, you will be able to determine the best way to place that La-Z-Boy recliner mentioned earlier, and you will learn how to let the positive energy flow through your home!
