Keep Your Home Safe During Summer

Summer is a fun time. People enjoy going out with friends and traveling the world on road trips. It can be a busy time where you are out and about more. You are not at home as often like in the winter. This means your home is more vulnerable to criminals. While you are out having fun at the beach, an intruder could be looking to burglarize your home. Don’t come home to broken windows and stolen goods. Here are some tips to keep your home safe while you are gone.

1. Become an Illusionist

Your home is most vulnerable when it seems unoccupied. Thieves look for homes that are easy targets. Take yours off the list by doing a few things to ward them off. Keep your home well-lit, if you are there or not. The outside of your home should have no dark corners for criminals to hide. Keep a light on inside the home while you go out to play in the pool with your friends. Turn on the TV or the radio near the more tempting windows. Keep your blinds closed, of course, but criminals can see the flickering of TV lights and hear the sound of the radio if they get close to the window. This could easily deter them from breaking in since they do not want to be caught.

2. Don’t make Announcements

We live in the days of Facebook and Twitter. We share our lives with our friends and loved ones on a day-to-day basis. Sadly, we also live in a world of criminals and people who do not care about your things. When you tweet to the world that you will gone all weekend, that is just begging for your less-than-friendly acquiescence to come and steal all of your stuff. Save the updates for when you are home!

3. Be Secure

They are some simple tips, but they really work! Lock your doors and windows. You might live in a nice neighborhood with good neighbors, but that isn’t going to stop someone from another area. Keep your home locked down. Another great way to ensure your home is protected is to invest in a security system. Security systems can come with glass break and motion detectors that will sound an alarm when triggered. You can even get monitoring from ADT or Broadview so police come to your home in the event of an invasion. Companies like Smith Monitoring offer rates as low as $17.95 a month. It is just a small price to pay for your peace of mind!
