The most famous occupants of the Antarctic are rather cute and often amusing creatures that children frequently fall in love with. Movies like Happy Feet and television characters like Pingu have only served to make these wonderful feathered friends even more popular and with kids loving them they make a great theme for their bedroom décor. If you think your kids would love a penguin themed bedroom you are in luck because there are plenty of fabulous home furnishings and decorative items that will help you fashion the scheme without too many problems and it is a theme that will appeal to both boys and girls.

Walls, Paintwork and Ceilings

Stick to fresh, bright white for the paintwork and ceilings, after all penguins love the snow! Take a look at the gorgeous penguin wallpaper by Caroline McGrath which is manufactured from sustainable forestry and can be wiped down in the case of accidents! The paper is available in several colours to suite your desired scheme and is made in the UK. If you don’t fancy an entire wall of penguins try using a penguin wallpaper border or simply painting the walls and featuring some great penguin wall art instead.

Bed Linen and Drapes

There are a wide variety of penguin themed bed linen and drapes available including sets to match the aforementioned wallpaper. Choose decorative, comic or naturalistic designs to suit the style of the room and your home or perhaps use plain linen and accent it with a penguin throw, comforter or bed runner for a more subtle look. Using plain linen and introducing the theme with accent pieces does allow you to alter the decoration as your child grows. Penguins are great for kids but perhaps not desired by teenagers unless
they want a career in Antarctic exploration!

Penguin Extras

Include a few items featuring crystals to add ice to your scheme and take a look at the gorgeous Koko lamps from Italian company Slide Designs. These lights are gorgeous, would suit any room and help real penguins too! 8% of the revenue from sales of the lamps is donated to the Penguin Foundation who Fund the preservation of the natural habitats of penguins in the wild. Complete the décor with a gorgeous penguin plush toy. The larger the better here!

Clothing

Why not run with the theme in your kids nightwear too. Penguins are, of course, the height of fashion! Check out the adorable Maxomorra penguins romper fashioned in organic cotton for your baby or for older kids try the Ava & Luc penguin pyjamas available for both boys and girls.

Perfect Scheme

If you are decorating a kid’s room you can’t choose a more adorable theme than penguins. Gorgeous and cute, they bring a smile to kids’ and adults’ faces alike and the items you will need are easy to source whatever your budget. It is easy to tailor the decoration to suit boys or girls and you will probably end up loving the room as much as your children!
