5 Easy Ways to Spruce Up Your Living Room

Living RoomFor many homes, the living room is the first room you see when you enter the house. It is also a common meeting place for families. If you are entertaining guests, having a nice looking living room can go a long way with making a good impression on them. Guests aside, it is also nice to come home to a nice living space. If you find yourself unhappy with your living room’s appearance, just know there is plenty you can do about it. Here are some tips to sprucing up your living space.

1. Rearrange The Furniture.
When it comes to changing the appearance of a room, this is the easiest thing you can do, and can sometimes make the most difference in a living room’s appearance. Rearranging furniture can create more space with strategically placed couches and chairs. It sounds too simple to be effective, but the results speak for themselves.

2. Buy New Furniture/Appliances
Have you been hanging onto old furniture for way too long? Maybe now is the time to replace your dinged and damaged living room furniture for new stuff. New furniture can be costly, but furniture outlets are almost always having some kind of deal. If your budget is even lower than that, then there are gently used couches and furniture sets that can be found in thrift stores, or online. On the flip side of that are living room appliances like stereos and TVs. In the case of the TV, it is what couches and chairs are commonly pointed towards. Buying a nice new TV can help bring the family together, and make your living room feel brand new.

3. Paint The Walls A Fun New Color.
A fresh coat of paint can go a long way to making a place look brand new. Best of all, it is easy enough to do, and fairly inexpensive too. The only suggestion to be made is making the color something out of the ordinary. White walls can appear bare and boring. A nice lime green or robin egg blue would brighten up the room.

4. Decorate The Walls.
It is common for living room walls to contain family pictures and maybe some artwork. It is tried and true for good reason, but looking at the same stuff can get old. Displaying new pieces of art can do a lot for changing the scenery. Also, retiring family photos to albums in favor of newer photos can do a lot in making your living room appear current and fresh.

5. Don’t Forget The Windows.
Daylight can go a long way in making a room look nice. If you choose to paint your walls a bright color, the sun will make that color pop better than the lights in your house ever could. If you have your windows cloaked in drapes, letting the sunshine in can be meddlesome at times. On sunny days, open drapes can make it too bright, but closing them can make it too dark. That is why some people, especially those in Phoenix, prefer blinds as their window covering of choice. A nice set of blinds will ensure that you can reach the perfect level of brightness. They also appear more modern, which is nice if you are aiming for that motif.

The importance of a living room on a home and family must never be understated. For some families, it is where they gather the most. Since it is so important, it is important that it be treated with care. Whether that means new furniture or a fresh coat of paint, do whatever it takes to make your house a home. You will be glad you did.
